Finding a good massage chair is not easy, especially when the good ones are usually very expensive (we’re talking $8,000 to over $10,000 here). If $1,000 is the maximum you’d want to spend on a massage chair, then you’ve come to the right place.
We have to admit that it has been a challenging process finding massage chairs under $1,000 that is of exceptional quality, although we’d say the choices available are definitely much wider than that of the under $500 category.
Nevertheless, here are the top 5 best massage chair under 1000 that we’re satisfied with and happy to recommend to our readers.
Our #1 Recommendation
- Zero gravity
- Full body airbag massage (50 airbags)
- Foot rollers with built-in heaters
- Heat function at waist, foot and butt

Best Massage Chair Reviews (under $1,000 category)
Honestly, this is a pleasant surprise. You’d never imagine a massage chair of this price point to be equipped with so many features (we’re talking about zero gravity, full body airbags here), and features done well.
This is the Real Relax Full Body Zero Gravity Massage Chair - a full body zero gravity massage chair with built-in heaters to waist, foot and butt, seat vibration, full body airbag and foot rollers massage.
There are 4 preset auto massage programs which represents 4 kinds of massage speed and intensities (you can choose spot massage as well) and there is a timer for up to 30 minutes.
Usually, we are rather skeptical when a massage chair claims to have too many features, especially when one is from a low price point.
You see, there are actually two approaches that companies usually take: load their chair with as many features as they can (but not necessarily done well) in the hopes of attracting more customers, or pick one or two features and specializes in them, forgetting the rest.
The Real Relax Favor 03 is the former, but with functions implemented well beyond expectation. The stand out feature has to be its zero gravity function. There are a total of 3 Zero G positions - Initial, Comfort and Deep - for a reclination up to 180 degrees.
If you’ve done your research, you’ll know this is a rare find as most chairs usually have 1 position only, even for the more expensive ones. For one that is below $1,000, this is almost unheard of.
Another thing to note is that there are a whopping 50 airbags placed around the shoulders, arms, hips, legs, calves and feet area to provide massages in the form of air compression. That’s almost double the number of airbags in most massage chairs, and that is impressive.
However, there are some inconsistencies regarding the airbags pressure. We find that the shoulder airbags don’t really provide much pressure, whereas it’s the opposite when it comes to the lower back and leg area.
For the latter, it’s not that major an issue because you can put a towel or cushion to ease off the strength but there’s not much you can do for the shoulders. It is a pity, but then again, it is a massage chair under $1,000 so one’s got to be reasonable.
What You’ll Love About the Real Relax Favor 03
Finally, it’s got a well-designed remote control that is simple and intuitive. If this is your first massage chair, you won’t be burdened by thousands of buttons - it’s basic like a TV remote you’ll have no trouble mastering in a few minutes.
At a glance
Comparable to massage chairs in the higher price range, the Real Relax Massage Chair is not without limitation.
For one, it doesn’t have 3D scanning or body stretching, nor does it have any advance massage techniques like Swedish or Shiatsu. To have them will increase its price by manifolds no doubt, thus pushing it out of the sub $1k range.
For what is is, the Real Relax is a great chair with exceeding functionalities, there’s nothing we’d want to change really. Without the massages on, it even makes for one very comfortable recliner chair to sleep, rest or read in.
The Human Touch Volito Zero Massage Chair is for those who want a sleek massage chair that doesn’t look quite like your standard massage chair.
This is by far the prettiest massage chair we’ve seen to be honest, but the Volito is not just about looks.
Before we get to its functionality bits, let’s delve a little more on its design first.
The Volito has a revolutionary open frame design with a hideaway ottoman (more about that later) that will enhance any living space. It has won the 2017 Platinum ADEX design award for its flowing design with arching lines and padded armrests so you know we’re not exaggerating here.
It also has a smaller footprint compared to most massage chairs of similar features so it won’t fill up any room you put it in.
In terms of functionality, it doesn’t throw in too many features but what it has, it’s done pretty well. One remarkable one its Zero Gravity position.
You should be quite familiar with the benefits of zero gravity immersion (if not you can find out more here), to name a few, it reduces back pain, reduces leg swelling, improves circulation and blood-oxygen levels - overall an improvement in health.
The zero gravity massage of the Volito allows you to recline into the physician-recommended neutral body posture so that your body can fully absorb all of the benefits of a deep-tissue massage. You will instantly feel the relief of pressure on your spine, leaving your muscles in a perfect state of full relaxation.
You can’t adjust the intensity level though - you’ll have to do it manually with the removable backrest to customize the intensity of the massage. You can, however, adjust the leg and back independently though to find your perfect seating position as the Volito utilizes a dual-power motor.
We also really like its foot and calf massager. It uses what’s called the CirQlation Technology to massage the legs powerfully in an upward motion to force blood to the body’s core.
As mentioned earlier, it has a hideaway ottoman - the foot and calf massager can actually be rotated to serve as a comfortable ottoman when not in use (as pictured left). In this stealth mode, nobody could be the wiser that it is in fact a massage chair!
There are 3 physical therapy auto-programs: (1) Full Black (2) Shoulder (3) Low Back. There is no neck massage, but the pillow provides a comfortable cradling of your head and neck while providing ergonomic support.

You can see that the Human Touch Volito Zero Gravity Massage Chair is not packed with an abundance of features like what you’ll find on more expensive models, however, it’s got the basics covered really well.
If zero gravity and aesthetics are your top priority, then this chair is perfect for you.
The Ootori Full Body Massage Chair is a solid massage chair under 1000. It resembles Real Relax in many ways in that both are zero gravity massage chairs, offer foot massages and are easy to operate.
It has 8 massage rollers inside the backrest with foot rollers function and there are 56 airbags placed all over the shoulder, arms, seat and legs to offer a full body massage experience.
The fact that these can be modified via the remote through 3 different intensity and speed levels, and that the chair also offers 3 pre-programmed massage stages makes it even better.
Its zero gravity has an armrest linkage system design where rollers are installed in the armrest to keep pace with the backrest part when the chair ascends or descends.
The massage method it employs include positive kneading, reverse kneading, tapping and combination with vibration at the buttocks.
Where it falls short of the Real Relax is that it only has heat function at the lower back. Real Relax has it at the foot and buttocks area too besides the lumbar and although it may not be a small detail, it makes quite a difference in terms of enhancing the overall massage experience. This makes it less attractive to those who spend several hours of everyday on their feet compared to Real Relax.
It has a bigger footprint too so it may not be suitable for people who are working with limited space. However, it does have a valid (and very useful) reason for that: this is the zero gravity chair for tall person - it can fit up to 6.25ft, as opposed to most which has a maximum of 6ft.
Likewise, it can accommodate heavier users too (380-400lbs) so this is the chair to get if you’re on the bigger and taller side.
While you can use it purely as a recliner, we wouldn’t recommend it as the massage knobs do not retract back into the chair. It wouldn’t be comfortable sitting in it, unless it doesn’t bother you that much.
At a glance
As mentioned at the beginning, the Ootori Full Body Massage Chair is a solid massage chair with basic features that most casual users would look for.
It doesn’t have a stand out feature because none of them is executed exceptionally well - the air massage is good but not exceptional - so there really isn’t any that will entice you to choose it over the other.
Having said that, it is a trusty massage chair that serves its purpose and if you like this particular configuration better, then it will be a good choice to consider (it is cheaper than Real Relax).
It has astonishing functionability, and if not for its low-slung style gaming chair design which isn’t everyone’s favourite, it would have scored a higher rank in our review.
With a footprint of approximately 25’ for a base, it is one of the best small massage chair that will fit in any home or office. However, that also transcribes to its seat size which means it’s not the most comfortable chair for bigger-sized users.
It’s also not the best massage chair for tall person, we’d say the maximum height is around the 6’ mark as any taller than that, you’ll feel rather cramped in it.
Hybrid L/S Track
The standout feature of this chair is its hybrid L/S Track design.
The L Track kneads your muscle and skin with simulated human touch to relieve pressure and remove fatigue whereas the S Track has rollers moving from your upper back all the way down to the lower back to keep the human body “S” curve and relax the vertebra.
Apart from that, it utilizes deep 3D manipulators to knock and roll massages for the neck, full, upper and lower back.
These manipulators are said to increase massage strength and intensity and we’re quite surprised to find that it’s true - its massaging functionality is really stronger than most other products of this price range and category.
There’s no way of adjusting the intensity level though if it’s too strong for you so that’s something to take note of.
For the hip and waist, it uses full wrap airbags shiatsu massage with heat function to provide heating therapy from the upper back to the bottom of your body. The automatic timing of 15 minutes is also a rather unexpected but welcoming feature to have.
And as one of the best massage gaming chair, it comes as no surprise that the Giantex has a unique 3D surround sound system with AUX and Bluetooth mode to give the best music and massage experience.
At a glance
Overall, the Giantex Leisure Curved Massage Chair is a solid chair. It has the basic massaging features an average person will need.
If you’re not over 6 feet tall, you’ll be impressed with this chair especially if you don’t have a lot of space to work with as it will not dominate whatever room you put it in.
The iJOY 2.1 Reclining Massage Chair is another model from Human Touch so it is no surprise that it has such an aesthetically pleasing modern design. It is slightly cheaper than the Volito, also smaller in footprint comparatively.
It is not as robust as the Volito in that it doesn’t have as many features, but one thing it has and done really well is its FlexGlide Duo, a dual robot technology that can simultaneously massage your back and glutes to utter perfection.
If massage quality is the only thing you’re going for, then look no further. We can safely say that this is, by far, the best massage you'll receive in a chair for under $1000.
You see, it has two sets of quad rollers (one in the back and another in the seat itself) that can be operated independently via the brand’s exclusive FlexGlide 360 control system.
This means you get to enjoy what amounts to two simultaneous massages, all at the same time.
We have to say this is the only massage chair under 1000 that has this function because usually, all you see from massage chairs of this price point is a vibrating seat that gives vibration-type of massage to the buttocks. Not with the ijoy massage chair.
It has a long L-Track that extends well under the seat so the rollers are able to also reach and knead your glutes and the backs of your thighs as well. There are four massage auto-programs which you can choose from for the ultimate therapeutic experience.
This does not mean that the chair is not without limitation. There are a few glaring ones which you should bear in mind, amongst which include:
At a glance
Overall, the iJOY 2.1 Reclining Massage Chair is a strong contender if you’re looking for a basic massage chair with an outstanding outlook.
If you have specific therapeutic needs though, this model may not be enough for you, with the glaringly missing element of a foot and calf massager. It is designed and engineered in the USA by a brand of over 15 years so you know its quality is reliable.
Best Massage Chair Under 1000 Roundup Review
If you’re looking for a quality massage chair with all the bells and whistles, this is not the category for you. You’ll pay in the thousands for it. If you’re looking for a massage chair with limited capability, but does each job well, look no further.
Our top pick is the Real Relax Favor 03 no doubt for its all-roundedness. It may not be your best though and that's perfectly fine because different people have different preference. In short,
Ultimately, it comes down to personal needs and preferences. Even though you may disagree with our rankings above, we are quite certain that one of the chairs listed above will be exactly what you're looking for.
