Best Massage Chair Reviews (under $2,000 category)
The Kahuna LM6800 Massage Chair Recliner is the undisputed winner when it comes to the best massage chair under 2000.
It is shortlisted as one of our best full body massage chair, and that is saying a lot considering in that category, it is up against some of the best high end massage chair available in the market. There are many reasons as to why.
There are altogether 5 manual massage techniques - the basic kneading, tapping, a combination of both, rolling and delightfully, shiatsu.
If you have read our review here, you will know how beneficial shiatsu massage is so it is definitely a plus to find this chair, at this price point, equipped with this advanced technique here.
It gives targeted and proportion area massage mostly at the back so you can say it is a massage chair for back pain. However, it’s not just that.
Body Scan Technology
One great feature in the $2,000 and above category, usually, is that you’ll get a computerized full body scan feature. After taking a scan of your body, it will make subtle adjustments to both the position of the rollers and the width of the massage field so that it can hit the accurate pressure points.
If, for some reason, you don’t feel that the right spot is being massaged at, don’t worry, the LM6800 allows you to manually adjust the rollers to be where you want them to. To be very honest, we’re surprised (albeit pleasantly) that a chair at this price range has this to offer.
Rare Hybrid L/S Track
It certainly is not something new or exceptional but within this price range, it is pretty rare to have a massage chair that comes with a hybrid L/S Track.
What this means is that aside from massaging your neck and back, the quad rollers that the chair is equipped with will go all the way down to under the seat of the chair via a specially designed L-track frame to massage both your glutes and the back of your thighs.
Best Body Stretch Routines and SH-Chiro Programs
A Kahuna signature program - the patented Yoga-Stretching program is one of the best body stretch routines ever developed for a massage chair.
It is best for chronic pain sufferers as the way it stretches your entire body is comparable to that of a chiropractic adjustment, giving you an instant relief with blood circulating your entire body after use.
Combine that with the SH-Chiro program (another signature) which specifically targets the spine area by unlocking nerve energy, the pain relief is second to none.
We’ve said it then and we’ll say it again. Kahuna chairs (including the LM6800) is equipped with a cleverly innovative space-saving technology that adds to its already exceptional ergonomic structural design.
It requires only 3 inches from the wall at Zero-G position transition and this is doable because it slides forward when it reclines so it does not need unnecessary space at the back, unlike others.
This makes it an attractive model to those who don’t have much space to work with.
Other Therapeutic Functions
There are 3 stages of Zero Gravity and 6 different auto programs to choose from (including the aforementioned yoga stretching program) but best of all, it has quad rollers installed at the footer area.
Many, at the very most, give dual rollers only (if they have them at all) so to have quad and extra foot padding, is definitely an exquisite massage experience to the feet.
It is also worthy to mention that Kahuna offers extensive heat coverage - both at the back and calf region. Although it is advertised as lumbar and leg heating function only, we find that the heat actually covers most of the lower half of the back.
This is great, again for those suffering chronic pain (one of the best home chair for lower back pain) or if you work in a profession that requires you to be on your feet most of the time, the heated calf and foot massage could easily be your most favourite aspect of the chair.
Uniquely designed air cell massage system can cover most of the surface area with a minimal number of air cells. It ultimately brings up the massage quality and performs quieter. The air cells are programmed to inflate separately which causes the body to twist and deep stretch.
This is not to say that the LM6800 is not without any flaws. It uses rather dated airbags to provide air-cell massages and while we wouldn’t call this a ‘flaw’, it is definitely something to be improved at.
At a glance
For all the above, we think it’s easy to see why the Kahuna LM6800 takes the top spot in this category. Despite all its features, it is relatively easy to use.
And if you don’t already know, Kahuna is one of the most well respected manufacturers in the industry. Its customer service is excellent and it offers the best warranty service for an online massage chair company (3 year limited warranty).
Nonetheless, the MK-Classic resembles it closely, with a few extras that we think you’ll like. In fact, we’ll have to say that it resembles the Kahuna LM6800 too, which explains why it is our first runner-up.
It has the same 5 massage techniques (including advanced shiatsu massage) and there are 7 automatic programs with 3 levels of airbag intensity and speed control to choose from.
Yes, like the LM6800, it utilizes airbag massage technology so it isn’t the best, but the number of airbags (42) more than makes up for this.
They are programmed to inflate/deflate separately which causes the body to twist and stretch on shoulders, lower back, hips, and thighs working simultaneously or individually.
2nd Generation Contoured L-Track System
The MK-Classic has a L-Track system similar to that of the LM6800. It contours the back and glides from the lower skull all the way down to the buttocks, but it does not stop there. It goes beyond to reach your upper thigh area.
In fact, its 50-inch track is currently the longest available on the market so it makes for one best massage chair for tall person because it can accommodate individuals from 5’2” up to 6’5” tall.
Massage Chair for the Tall
Which brings us to, if you’re on the tall side, this is the best massage chair for you. Not only because of the 50-inch track, but it has adjustable shoulder airbags that can be raised (or lowered) according to your upper body height.
Also, its footrest can be extended another 6 inches to cater to those above 6ft. Not many massage chairs in this price range has this feature so it makes the MK-Classic so much more value for its money.
Although not a necessity, we have to say this is a nice and considerate touch to have. You see, most of us fall asleep during massage sessions. Unlike other massage chairs, this one here remains in sleep mode.
What this means is that after you massage ends, the chair remains in whatever reclined position you were in so it will not wake you up if you fall asleep during the massage (as opposed to other chairs that incline immediately after massage and wake you up).
And with a 30-minute timer, we can’t say it is not possible that you WILL fall asleep in it.
Even if you don’t, the back-lit buttons & small-size remote controller will let you control your massage easily in total darkness.
Other Therapeutic Functions
It gives 3 stages of zero gravity positions with a reclination of up to 160°.
There are multiple air bags on the sides and back of the legs and feet which inflate for compression massage and an enhanced foot roller rolls back and forward to soothe the sole and heel.
Like the LM6800, the MK-Classic has a yoga and stretch program. These are programs that are specially designed to stretch your body during your massages and the benefit of this? You get to rejuvenate your tired muscles faster.
Why? Because getting massages while your muscle is either stretched or squeezed lets you obtain more energy than in one fixed position.
With vigorous air cells pinning your body in place, the chair moves you to a calculated routine and slowly stretches out the leg and back muscles in what is called the ‘spinal decompression’ programs.
You can think of it this way - while one program stretches your upper body, the other program stretches your legs and thighs. We find this to be of particular suitability for those suffering chronic pain.
Another thing we have to commend on is its heating therapy, which is spread across the entire chair including the arms, shoulder, calves and feet.
Further, it provides 2 heating pads in the lower back area so you can expect it to be one of the best chair for lower back pain.
At a glance
If you haven’t heard of Relaxonchair before, we don’t blame you. It is a direct manufacturer, an off-brand that doesn’t do much mainstream marketing but that also means it does not need to overcharge unnecessarily.
Most importantly, its products are effective and we can say that the Relaxonchair MK-Classic Full Body Massage Chair is comparable to many $3k - $4k massage chairs in the market.
If you suffer from chronic pain and are looking for a therapeutic massage chair, you may face the dilemma of choosing between this or the LM6800.
A surprisingly full-featured chair at this price point, from a relatively unknown brand on top of that. We’re talking about the OWAYS Zero Gravity SL Track Massage Chair Recliner.
Comparable to some of the best massage chair in the world, at under $2,000, we have to say this chair surpasses a lot of our expectation.
In many ways, it is similar to that of the Kahuna LM6800 and Relaxonchair MK-Classic, a combination of both you may even say.
For example, it has the same 3 levels of zero gravity angles and provides the basic massage techniques including shiatsu and kneading.
It has yoga-stretching function and it uses air massage technology to massage the neck, shoulders, back, arms, waist, hips, calves and feet area as a full body massage chair. So what differs?
SL Track and Adjustable Shoulder Width
It has a dual S/L track that measures up to about 52 inches. If you’ve read our review thus far, you will know that this is by far the longest track for a massage chair under $2000.
The electric massage rollers are adjustable for different shoulder width, given that it measures 1.57" to 8.27" with 3 levels.
Both of these - long track and adjustable shoulder width - mean that the chair is able to accommodate people of different figure including bigger users.
Space Saving Technology
Utilizing a similar sliding forward technology as the chair reclines, the OWAYS needs about 3.9 inches from the wall only.
Not as narrow as the LM6800, but good enough to fit in most limited spaces.
Auto Body Detection
As soon as you turn it on, the chair will detect your height, shoulder width and weight automatically. It will then match the right point to massage for you. There are altogether 6 auto modes for you to choose from.
At a glance
Given all the features that the OWAYS Zero Gravity Massage Chair Recliner is equipped with, it actually makes ranking these chairs so much harder than we would have thought.
Ultimately, why it didn’t rank as high as the previous two models is that the former two did them just a slight better i.e. yoga-stretching, heat therapy, number of airbags.
In terms of foot massages, it is the best out of the three though. It also has features of both the models, so if you’d like a combination of them, this will make for a very good consideration.
The iRest Full Body Zero Gravity Recliner Massage Chair is an excellent entry-level massage chair for casual users who suffer from chronic back pain and/or chronic leg pain.
With AI voice control, it is equipped with a powerful intelligent I track back quad rolling mechanism that aims to take care of your neck, upper, mid, and lower back.
This is unlike other massage chairs that only have a dual roller system or a plastic weak fixed point massage system that can only create 1 type of massage.
It also comes with an oversized soft comfort head and neck pillow that contour to your head and neck for the ultimate comfort (take a look at other chairs which will most likely have a flat pillow or no head pillow) .
Extensive Massage Modes and Programs
This chair has a whopping 7 types of manual massage modes and 5 automatic programs for you to choose from. At this range, we don’t think there is another with more massage technique options.
Apart from the standards, it includes Vibration and Air Bag Massage, the latter of which has airbags built into the shoulders, calves, feet, arms and even hands.
There are 3 levels of speed and intensity for you to adjust for the manual modes, as well as 3 widths choices for the rollers.
In terms of massage quality, we will say its mechanism provides a healthy medium to deep tissue massage.
Zero Gravity Positioning
This is worth highlighting. The iRest does this feature quite differently, to say the least.
You see, a lot of other chairs, including the ones we’ve reviewed thus far here, have only 3 built-in recline positions. Not the case here.
This chair allows you to control the reclining of the back and legs SEPARATELY, thanks to its dual reclining motors. What this means is that you get to recline yourself into the most comfortable position, and angle, of your choice.
Yoga Stretch Program
Although most chairs in this price range has a stretching program one way or the other, this one here probably does it best with its ‘larger pull area’.
Comparable to that of a professional therapist’s hands, it squeezes the feet and legs before pulling them down towards the ground while the backrest pulls your core (upper body) back into the recline position.
If you like Thai massage where extreme pressure is applied while stretching, then this will be right up your alley.
Massage Timer and Pause Feature
You get up to 30 minutes of uninterrupted massage with the option to add more time before the session ends.
The Pause allows you to pause the entire massage when needed (answer the phone etc) without having to turn off the chair and restart the session and recline position.
Foot Roller Massage
Unlike most chairs in this price range that can only offer you acupressure massage, this chair offers you both (foot rolling and foot and calf acupressure) so you will get a more efficient relaxing foot massage.
At slightly under $2,000, the iRest Full Body Zero Gravity Recliner Massage Chair is one of the best value buy.
The brand goes by the motto that is ‘you don’t need to pay more for a quality chair, nor do you have to pay less for an inferior chair made of weak materials’. Having tested it, we can vouch for that - it is surely one of the best massage chair for the money you can find in the market.
This chair deserves particular attention if you’re just a casual user, looking for a massage chair that does the job well. It has an impressive number of features, not necessarily bogged down with therapeutic effects to draw those in need only.
Here’s What Stands Out
One thing to note though, is that the chair does not come assembled. They come in two boxes - one for the main unit and the other the armrests so you’ll have to attach the armrests onto the chair yourself.
There are also cases where one box is delivered later than the other so that may be a bit frustrating, however there’s no need to worry about it getting lost as they are delivered by FedEx.
At a glance
Another massage chair within the lower spectrum that is the 'under $2,000' range, the Ootori SL Massage Chair deserves particular attention if you do not have any specific areas to target at i.e. no chronic painful body parts that require particularly strong pressure.
Which is not necessary, really, because it's not the case where the stronger, the better it is. As some users have said for other models, too strong a pressure will actually result in painful massage sessions so with this one here, there's no need to worry about that.
Best Massage Chair Under 2000 Roundup Review
If you think that the chairs reviewed above are somewhat similar one way or the other, we don’t blame you. However, while they do have similar features, there are distinctable differences too.
Ultimately, the best massage chair for you will depend on what requirements you’re most after - what may be the world’s best massage chair may not necessarily be that to you so choose, according to your needs and preferences.
